Frugality Stupidity

Well I am finally listed among the living again today! My flu turned into walking pneumonia, so it took me a little longer to get better than I expected. I have never had the flu before – and I never want to have it again!  So on the frugal front, I had a little comment to make.I lost 3 1/2 days of work last week – a considerable sum of money. So I was able to adjust my budget to compensate for it – and it occurred to me – when we HAVE TO make way for an expense, or an emergency purchase, or a shortfall, we always manage don’t we?

Makes me wonder why I cant manage to do the things I know I should do – like save 10%, pay down debt – and treat them like HAVE TO’s like my lost income?

The first HAVE TO I am putting back in my budget is my vitamins. I have them scheduled for the first of next month. I was NEVER sick when I took them each month – but the expense ($107.85 which includes shipping) felt like something I could do without. Well I could have bought over five months of vitamins for what I lost just this week! Just this last year I have been sick almost constantly. I am going to make other health purchases next month that I hope will be just as effective – I need to take care of myself!!!

This is a case of frugality stupidity. Some things are just plain worth the expense.

Anyone else ever do this? Spend too little on something they wish they had invested more in or deleted an expense that turned out to be necessary, like my vitamins?

Please tell me I am not the only one ……
